Where the information comes from. Job descriptions are task statements from the O*NET 30.3 Database, published by the U.S. Department of Labor, shown word for word. How many people do each job comes from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025. Jobs are grouped using O*NET interest areas.
What the head counts do and do not include. The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts people employed by an organisation. It does not count people who work for themselves. For most jobs that changes very little, but for music, acting, writing and art it means the real number of people doing the work is higher than the figure shown — those fields have far more self-employed workers than average. Where a group is described here as made up of small jobs, that is true of the published count, which is the only count there is.
What is deliberately not here. No pay figures, no rankings, no grades and no quiz result about the child. This is a place to look things up, not a test.
